VERMONT BEARHOUND ASSOCIATION

DONATED TO THE

VERMONT FISH & WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT

A LIVE BEAR TRAP!

WE DONATED THIS SO THE NUISANCE BEAR MIGHT BE TRANSPORTED FROM ONE SITE TO ANOTHER.   THE LIVE BEAR TRAP WAS BUILT WITH TWO COMPARTMENTS.  ONE FOR THE MOTHER AND IF THERE WERE CUBS WITH HER, THE SECOND SECTION COULD HOUSE THE CUBS.

WE HAVE HOPES THAT THE DEPARTMENT'S BIOLOGISTS COULD ALSO UTILIZE THIS LIVE BEAR TRAP FOR GETTING STATISTICS IN A SAFE MANNER, FOR THE BIOLOGISTS AND THE BEAR.

THE TRAP WAS BUILT BY GARY RIGGS OF ENOSBURG FALLS, VERMONT.

THE VERMONT FISH & WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT ACCPETED THIS DONATION AT THE VBA'S ANNUAL MEETING IN APRIL 2009.

NUISANCE BEAR AND BEEHIVES?

ONE WAY TO PROTECT YOUR BEEHIVES IS PLACING ELECTRIC FENCING AROUND THE HIVES.

THE BEAR NOSE AND PAWS ARE VERY SENSITIVE AND THIS IS ONE WAY, ONCE THEY GET STUNG BY THE ELECTRIC FENCE, THEY MAY NOT COME BACK!

SOMETIMES HANGING BACON FROM THE STRANDS SO THE BEAR WILL BE ATTRACTED TO THE FENCING, WILL ALSO DETER THEM FROM GOING AFTER THE HIVES.

THE VERMONT BEARHOUND ASSOCIATON IS PROACTIVE IN EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON NUISANCE BEAR!

WE ARE A TOOL FOR THE VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE FOR NUISANCE BEAR.  WE KEEP THE BEAR WILD WITH OUR HOUNDS!

BY CHASING OFF THE BEAR WITH OUR HOUNDS, THE BEAR WILL NOT COME INTO YOUR BACK YARD AND HARM YOUR PETS!

CLEAN YOUR BBQ GRILLS BEFORE PUTTING THEM AWAY!

DO NOT PUT YOUR TRASH OUTSIDE THE NIGHT BEFORE PICKUP.

BRING YOUR BIRD FEEDERS IN FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS!

IF YOU HAVE CORN CROP DAMAGE, WE CAN USE OUR HOUNDS TO CHASE THE BEAR OFF BEFORE THEY DESTROY ALL OF THE CROP.

WE WORK CLOSELY WITH THE VERMONT FISH & WILDLIFE WARDENS.

IF POSSIBLE, WE WOULD RATHER SEE THE BEAR RUN OFF THAN SEE IT DESTROYED.

THE VERMONT FISH & WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT HAS STATISTICS STATING THE HARVESTING OF ALL BEAR TAKEN;

USING HOUNDS IS THE LEAST OF ALL BEAR HARVESTED!
